Show Someone You Care...Express It With A Poem!!!
THE DAY THAT CHANGED THE WORLD
On July 4, 1776, the world was taken back,
When a bunch of Yankee rebels made King George blow his stack.
When fairness is all they wanted; their taxes they would gladly pay.
King George said, “I’m so mighty, you’ll do exactly as I say,”
So, he ordered his mighty army to crush the rebel band,
Ask and give no mercy, punish with a heavy hand.
He didn’t know the Americans; he knew nothing of their resolve,
He underestimated the problems that fighting the Yankee farmers would involve.
At first, it must have been a joke for farmers to challenge the best,
Since the “red coats” were the finest, they had passed so many tests.
Their navy ruled the oceans; it carried the might of the English Throne,
But it scared not the Americans, especially Captain John Paul Jones.
With his ship blown to tatters, the British asked him if his colors he wanted to be strike.
Captain Jones roared back, “No, I have not yet begun to fight!”
So, off the coast of England, with their ship sinking fast,
They out fought the British sailors and hauled the union jack down from the mast.
With General Washington outsmarting the British and catching the Germans asleep in their beds,
I’m sure the British uniforms weren’t the only things to turn bright red.
Outnumbered, undernourished, and certainly outgunned, they kicked the high-stepping Brits,
With American courage and ingenuity, and not knowing how to say I quit.
That’s what we need today, so the whole world can see,
We need to fly Captain Jones’ famous flag, so we can tell the world, “don’t tread on me!”
